How to Get PAN for Your Company or LLP

Every company, LLP, and registered firm needs a PAN before it can open a bank account, register for GST, or file income tax returns. PAN is applied through Form 49A on the NSDL portal.

The process is straightforward but document accuracy is critical. The entity name on Form 49A must match the Certificate of Incorporation exactly - even minor differences cause rejection. Address proof must be less than 2 months old. A Board Resolution authorising the signatory is mandatory for companies and LLPs.

NSDL processes applications within 5 to 7 working days. The e-PAN arrives by email first - you can use it immediately. The physical card takes 10 to 15 additional days. The government fee is Rs. 107 for domestic delivery.

NSDL requires proof of identity, address, and legal constitution for all business entities applying for PAN. Documents differ by entity type. Upload clear scanned copies in PDF or JPG format, each under 2MB.

Frequently Asked Questions

My company was just incorporated. Do I need PAN before opening a bank account?

Yes. Banks require company PAN as mandatory KYC to open a current account. Apply immediately after incorporation. Banks also accept the NSDL acknowledgement letter while the physical card is in transit.

Is company PAN different from director PAN?

Yes. The company is a separate legal entity and needs its own PAN. Each director has their own individual PAN. These are different numbers used for different tax filings.

How long does PAN registration take?

NSDL processes applications in 5 to 7 working days. e-PAN arrives by email within 48 hours of allotment. Physical card takes 10 to 15 additional days by post.

Can I use the acknowledgement number while waiting for PAN?

Yes. Banks and the GST portal accept the NSDL acknowledgement number. We share it the same day we submit your application.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • 01Entity name on Form 49A does not match Certificate of Incorporation exactly - even "Pvt" vs "Private" causes rejection

  • 03Board resolution or authorization letter is missing or not properly signed by all directors
  • 04PAN of authorised signatory is invalid or name does not match Aadhaar
  • 05Documents are blurry, cropped, or in unsupported format - use clear PDF or JPG scans

More Questions

My company was incorporated yesterday. Which documents do I need right now?

Certificate of Incorporation, MOA, AOA, and the authorised signatory's PAN and Aadhaar are the minimum. The address proof and board resolution can be uploaded within 24 hours of ordering. Your CA will tell you exactly what is missing after reviewing your uploads.

The registered office address proof is in the director's personal name, not the company name. Is that acceptable?

Yes, provided you also upload a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the director confirming the company is permitted to use that address as its registered office. NSDL accepts this combination.

We do not have a board resolution yet. Can we start the process?

Yes. Upload all other documents first. We will send you a board resolution template immediately after payment. Once all directors sign it, upload it and your CA will proceed with submission.

The electricity bill at our registered office is in the previous tenant's name. What do I upload?

Upload the rent agreement (in your company's name) as the address proof instead. If the landlord can provide a NOC or an electricity bill in their own name for the same address, upload that alongside the rent agreement.

Do I need to upload physical originals or are digital scans accepted?

Digital scans and original digital documents (like the MCA-issued Certificate of Incorporation PDF) are accepted. Photographs taken on a phone are acceptable if they are clear, well-lit, and show all four corners of the document.
